Light and stories of icons

The BMW chandelier was designed as a center lighting fixture for FREUDE by BMW, a new two-story BMW experience hub located in Tokyo’s Azabudai District.

The lamp celebrates the history of BMW's iconic twin kidney grille, a signature element that has shaped the front of the BMW vehicles for almost a century.

The kidneys are arranged in a chandelier-like formation, allowing for a unique visual experience from every angle, revealing different facets of BMW's rich design history.

Each grille represents a significant milestone in BMW's car design history. The lamp features the elongated vertical kidneys from the 1933 BMW 303, the first to introduce the kidney-shaped air intakes, the elegant horizontal kidneys of the 507, the balanced kidneys of the "New Class" series from the 1960s, and the bold, forward-thinking modern interpretations.

Day and night, the chandelier shifts in mood and color while keeping its core story alive.

The use of translucent materials provides a soft, ambient glow, while subtle vertical ridges further echo the functional essence of a car grille.
